Mac SlavoActivist PostThis one is just too rich. The arrogance and absurdity is over the top.Granted, most of the political class is already de facto above the law to begin with. But now, a lawmaker in Oklahoma has introduced a bill to officially give most lawmakers, judges, appointees and holders of high office immunity from prosecution. The bill proposes to strip away the ability of a local level prosecutor, such as a district attorney, from being able to bring charges against anyone holding a [...]
As Oregon, Washington, California, Maui, and Vermont have all struggled against the biotech behemoths to get GMO labeling laws to pass, each with varying success, a surprising advocate for the cause has turned up in Indiana. Here is yet another state that may soon represent the people who want to know what they’re eating.
Under the newly proposed legislation, which was introduced by Sen. Dennis Kruse, R-Auburn companies would be required to label foods that contain genetically engineered [...]
It’s fitting that Jamaica’s Senate would approve a marijuana reform bill on the 70th birthday of Bob Marley. The bill would decriminalize small amounts of marijuana and legalize cannabis for religious, medicinal, and scientific purposes.
The senate debated on the matter for five hours before voting on the proposal.
“We need to position ourselves to take advantage of the significant economic opportunities offered by this emerging industry,” says Justice Minister Mark Golding, who [...]
In yet another move against Monsanto, legislation was introduced on January 15th in Rhode Island which calls for the labeling of any foods created using genetically engineered ingredients. The bill would effectively place a label on any food containing GMOs, stating “produced with genetic engineering,” and would specify what the term ‘genetically engineered product’ means.
Passing of the bill would be a victory in the battle for our food supply, though it doesn’t q [...]

When you think of GMO labeling initiatives, you probably don’t immediately think about the tucked away Midwestern state of Minnesota. But in a move that could very well beat out states like California and New York in finally achieving a full-fledged GMO labeling law system, Minnesota legislatures have introduced brand new highly-backed GMO labeling legislation that is shaping up to be quite promising.
Never before would you think that the battleground for GMO awareness and legislative over [...]

I can only guess at what reason they will provide for the need of such a law. In reality, there can only be one reason, they want a quick clean kill. [...]

The city of Margate is the first in Florida to unanimously pass a bill that would require the labeling of food containing genetically modified ingredients (GMOs). The bill was supported by the city’s newly appointed Mayor, Joanne Simone, as well as Vice Mayor, Tommy Ruzzano, and follows a trend of other Florida cities proposing similar bills.
Trish Sheldon of GMO Free Florida had stated prior to the Florida city of Hallendale’s vote on a GMO labeling bill:
“Floridians want to know what th [...]
Activist PostState efforts to stop warrantless NSA spying are off to a fast start in the 2015 legislative session. Just two weeks into this year's legislative season, and with many legislatures not even in session yet, legislators in four states have already introduced bills to ban material support or resources to any federal agency engaged in warrantless spying. These bills not only support efforts to turn off NSA’s water in Utah, but would also have practical effects on federal surveillance [...]
Welcome back everyone! My apologies for last week’s technical issues and last night's lack of show. We are working on some things on our end and hope that we can iron them out and return to our normal schedule soon. If all goes well tonight, we will be talking about TX HB 195: Summary: Relating to the carrying of handguns; providing for the open carrying of handguns; removing the requirement that a person who may lawfully possess handguns obtain a Concealed Handgun License in order to carry a [...]
Activist PostWith Congress not only failing to rein in National Security Agency (NSA) spying, but actually expanding its power in a recent funding bill, many privacy activists have turned to the states to take action to block warrantless surveillance programs.A bill filed this week in Indiana would not only support efforts to turn of NSA’s water in Utah, but would also have some practical effect in the Hoosier State. Introduced on Jan. 14 by State Sen. Mike Delph (R-Carmel), the Indiana Fourth [...]

The Department of Business in Europe got an interesting Christmas greeting this holiday season – an enormous card with a singing Santa Clause carrying a toy sack marked with an obvious message about the unpopular Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) – #noTTIP hashtag.
If you don’t know what the TTIP is, don’t worry – many individuals aren’t yet aware. Here is a brief description:
“The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is a ser [...]
Activist PostWith Congress not only failing to rein in National Security Agency (NSA) spying, but actually expanding its power in a recent funding bill, many privacy activists are looking to the states to take action to block warrantless surveillance programs. A bill filed late last week in Missouri would not only support efforts to turn of NSA's water in Utah, but have some practical effect in the Show Me State should it pass. The Missouri Fourth Amendment Protection Act would ban "material sup [...]

Ellen BrownActivist PostOn December 11, 2014, the US House passed a bill repealing the Dodd-Frank requirement that risky derivatives be pushed into big-bank subsidiaries, leaving our deposits and pensions exposed to massive derivatives losses. The bill was vigorously challenged by Senator Elizabeth Warren; but the tide turned when Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorganChase, stepped into the ring. Perhaps what prompted his intervention was the unanticipated $40 drop in the price of oil. As financial blogg [...]

The $1.1 trillion federal spending bill rammed through Congress provides a half-billion dollars to arm and train ISIS-linked Syrian rebels who could potentially launch terrorist attacks against the U.S.
Section 9016 of the spending bill authorizes the Secretary of Defense $500,000,000 to equip “appropriately vetted elements of the Syrian opposition” who will defend “the Syrian people from attacks by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant,” but back in Septemb [...]
With the consistent creation of GMO labeling bills across the United States, it is painfully obvious that people around the country want GMO-laden food labeled. There is no question that we are slowly winning back our food soverignty, but we must overcome every hurdle put before us. While it’s great to see states passing GMO labeling initiatives, the battle for the right to know if your food contains genetically modified organisms (GMOs) could come to a screeching halt with the signing of [...]

House Speaker John Boehner has broken his pledge to give Americans “at least 72 hours” to read every bill taken up by the House before it is brought to a vote on the floor.
In his speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference held in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 18, 2010, Boehner vowed that if he became speaker members of Congress and the American people would be given “at least 72 hours” to read all bills before they were brought to a vote.
